Richard’s early years were marked by challenges after his family migrated to Australia when he was just 2 years old. Settling in Melbourne’s North, he faced the difficulties of adapting to a new environment. To help him stand up for himself and learn discipline, his stepfather, Dr. Max Hankin, enrolled him in boxing. Richard excelled in the sport, but used his skills to always lend a helping hand to others, earning him the reputation as the “nice guy”. By the age of 17, he became the youngest student accepted into Oenology at Roseworthy College (now Adelaide University), and by 1988, he had made history as Australia’s youngest ever Indian-born winemaker.
Richard later joined the Australian Navy, serving during the 1st Gulf War, where he demonstrated bravery and commitment to his country. Afterward, he ventured to Canada as an Air Traffic Controller and also pursued his entrepreneurial spirit, launching an international business that flourished.
In 1998, Richard returned to Australia and worked at his family’s winery, Hankin Estate. In 2001, the year his son Jordan was born, he proudly established his own winery, “Stockman Wines”.
Today, Richard is a versatile local real estate agent, helping clients find their dream homes with sharp negotiating skills and attention to detail. He has become an expert in both rural and inner-city Melbourne, understanding the unique needs of various communities.
Richard served as a Shire Councillor during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on improving the quality of life for residents in Diamond Creek, Doreen, Plenty, Yarrambat, Greensborough, and Eltham. His commitment to community extends to his real estate work addressing the current housing challenges many face and he devotes a lot of time and effort to his charity work where he continues to actively raise funds and awareness.
Formulating “Team Stockman” has taken Richard Several years. When it comes to a company’s greatest asset “its staff”, Richard believes each member has to justify their position in the organisation. Whether it be hard work or a superior skill of some kind, the attributes of the team need to work together like clockwork to thrive and provide the best possible outcome for the client.
